Arrick Maurice’s Monster 1100

My 2009 Ducati Monster 1100S

The Ducati Monster is the most iconic naked sportbike ever built and upon joining Ducati, I didn’t waste any time scooping up my own. While most are drawn to the Monster for its raw beauty and performance, many consider it a blank canvas, perfect for customization and personalization.

Late Night Work on the Monster

For 2011, we launched a customization competition for Ducati Monster owners and while I wasn’t eligible to compete, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to roll up my sleeves and join in on the fun. What started off as a short list of modifications quickly spun out of control…
in a good way.

Ducati Island Laguna Seca 2011

For the first of two MotoGP stops in the US this year, we headed out to Laguna Seca to host what has become the biggest “off-track” attraction of the weekend; Ducati Island. For the three days of race weekend, we take over an entire island within the raceway and deliver the Ducati Experience to existing Ducatisti and race fans. Fashion shows, professional rider appearances, Ducati owner hospitality, technical seminars, new Ducatis, vintage Ducatis, custom Ducatis… the list goes on and on.

For those that couldn’t make it, we shot a “Pre-race Show” throughout the two days leading up to the race and then distributed it the morning of for Ducatisti around the world to enjoy. Have a look:

Our friends at Mercedes AMG joined us this year and put this piece together:

And if you haven’t gotten enough, Motorcycle.com also did a short piece on the Island this year. Enjoy.

Moto Art by Elizabeth Raab

It is not often that I see motorsports and fine art cross paths. However, being that these are two of my greatest passions, it’s an exciting day when they do.

Sportbikes Inc Launch Party

In January, I was fortunate enough to have one of these days (evenings). While at the Sportbikes Inc launch party in NYC, I met Elizabeth Raab, a fine art photographer from Brooklyn, New York who also happens to be a Ducati enthusiast. While the breadth of Elizabeth’s work spans far beyond motorsports, she has been working on an ongoing series that features a juxtaposition of the female form and Ducati motorcycles that was on display at the event.

The work was incredible. Elizabeth manages to present this seemingly unoriginal subject matter (nude woman with motorcycle) in a visually stunning and thought provoking manner. The way she presents the lines, tones and textures of both the female form and the iconic Italian motorbikes seem to blur the lines between the two – the forms becoming more machine-like and the machines seem to take on more human characteristics, the two forms distinct and unified at the same time.

If you’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing Elizabeth’s work, have a look at elizabethraab.com

One Year Later

Arrick Maurice Miller WSBK 2010

Photo taken by Quentin Wilson at the World Superbike Race at Miller Motorsports Park in 2010

Just one year ago, I left NYC and a career as an Art Director for an opportunity to join Ducati as the Brand Manager for the North American market. The premium Italian motorcycle brand is built on a foundation of passion for motorcycles and is a manifestation of unmistakable Italian design and unrivaled performance, proven through decades of race wins throughout the world. An incredible opportunity to say the least…

With the opportunity came a stagnant void in the web – arrickmaurice.com. While it has served me well as a portfolio site for over eight years, it has become somewhat irrelevant with my new career path. So, I’m finally getting around to filling the void with what you see here, my entry into the world of blogging. I am not exactly sure what will materialize in this space, but it is sure to be reflective of my passions in life including, but not limited to motorcycles (specifically of the premium Italian variety), all things creative, business and culture.
